supermarket fresh food packaging

Recently I noticed some supermarket meats were in moulded plastic packs vacuum-sealed with see through top (as opposed to the tray packs with plastic wrap over them). The new packs sometimes looked bloated, and when I asked I was told that this type of package has a gas in it to preserve the product.
The same is to be said of some of the new pressure packed lettuce and other salad vegetables. Though this is not about graphic design,it shows our packaging is evolving. You may also note that some of these lettuce and salad packs are making some people sick.
I am amazed at the new and innovative seals and safety seals on packages. There must be a huge market in the engineering side of design.

yes the gas seems a worryyour comments are always insightful and thoughtful but i feel you are straying off the topic of the original post. this blog is to relate to the packaging for the product you are designing with simone. i will . and paste original post next.

In your first post state your intent regarding the packaging to be designed for simone's class. Select the product to be packaged. Next, identify your target market then research 10 existing products for the same target market. Over several posts examine the ten existing products by establishing criteria for assessment. Analyse the colour, layout, typography, imagery, copy, how and where marketed etc. What qualities make it sucessful? What qualities could be improved or avoided? Always include at least one image per post. Feel free to comment on other students posts.
